JOB GOAL                            

 

To assist teachers in conducting intensified learning experiences for students; to provide a variety of supportive tasks to improve instruction; to perform related work as required so that each child may be provided with educational opportunities to maximize learning.

 

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Assists instructional personnel with the development and presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises.
  1. Tutors students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up learning activity.
  1. Oversees and supervises students during classroom activities, in library, in lunchroom, on playground, on field trips, and during emergency drills.
  1. Assists in the development of instructional materials.
  1. Performs regular clerical duties such as filing, typing, or duplicating materials.
  1. Maintains student records and files.
  1. Operates and cares for instructional media, office machines, and equipment used for instructional purposes.
  1. Maintains discipline in the absence of the teacher.
  1. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.  
  1. Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
  1. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  1. Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.
  1. Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
  1. Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work as assigned by the teacher.
  1. Helps students with their clothing.
  1. Assists with lunch, snack, and clean-up routines.
  1. Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  1. Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  1. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  1. Participates in inservice training programs as assigned.
  1. Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
  1. Obtains the proper drivers license for student transportation purposes if requested.
  1. Administers/performs medical procedures for which laypersons may be trained.
  1. Performs such other duties as may reasonably be prescribed by the teacher, principal, or supervisor.
