Minimum bachelor's degree with valid Tennessee teaching license with appropriate endorsement required. Acceptable endorsements are 068, 458, 464, 498. Preferred candidate will have master's degree in Communication Disorders, CCC-SLP Certification, which means that all requirements for national certification have been met, Praxis has been passed, and Clinical Fellowship year has been completed. Position will help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that interfere with the individual student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program. Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree.
  2. Valid Tennessee teaching certificate at appropriate grade level.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOAL                            

 

To help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that interfere with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program.

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
  1. Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and language disabled children.
  1. Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  1. Provides screening to identify speech problems in children at regular intervals and specified levels.
  1. Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students’ needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps.
  1. Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student’s daily activities.
  1. Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  1. Keeps thorough, ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
  1. Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.
  1. Keeps an updated census of children requiring services in speech and language and advises the supervisor of any changes in this census.
  1. Performs such other duties as may reasonably be prescribed by the student personnel superintendent.

  6. Form Perception: To make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures.
  7. Color Discrimination: Ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades or other values of the same color.
